It has two states. On or Off.
And can the changing of states can trigger scenes.
I like using this as a 'mode' switch. Some people use it for 'away' or 'home'. I've found other great uses for it as well. It's great for scripting more complex actions/scenes when you need signal some intermediate state, like "active" or "running" or "finished"...
